University of Duisburg

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) – one of Germany's newest universities – is located in the heart of Europe, in the center of the Ruhr metropolitan area. We are one of the smallest and largest universities in Germany and think in terms of possibilities rather than borders.

The range of our subjects ranges from the humanities, social sciences and education to economics, engineering, natural sciences and medicine. We develop ideas with the future in eleven colleges. We are strong in research and teaching, biodiversity, and the promotion of potential, and we are committed to educational justice that deserves this name.

In the last few years, we have steadily improved our research results – and we are now one of the most research-intensive universities in Germany.

We mainly focus on the next generation. The opportunity to earn a junior professor degree is great for promising talents at UDE. Our young scientists have also made a name for themselves in Emmy Noether research groups since 2008 – and they have also brought us several Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Awards.

UDE provides established and emerging scientists with an environment in which they can develop and drive progress. In research societies and many projects of the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union, we conduct excellent basic and application-oriented research.

We have absorbed the team spirit, but at the same time we create freedom. Because outstanding results often depend on the performance of individual researchers.
